Creative Studio is computer software specifically developed by the Gammill Quilting Machine Company (Gammill) to operate longarm quilting machines equipped with the Statler Stitcher servo system. In developing the first release of Creative Studio, Gammill put together a focus group of experienced longarm quilters who outlined the processes that they go through in completing quilts and then developed a wish list of things that they would like a computer guided quilting machine to do. This led to the first release of Creative Studio software in the spring of 2007. Since its release, customer feedback has continually been solicited to improve and expand Creative Studio's capabilities as they relate to longarm quilting and the needs of longarm quilters. As a result, we think you will find Creative Studio intuitive and easy to use since it has essentially been designed by longarm quilters to perform the actual processes they would like to use to complete all kinds of quilts. |
Power Supply/Controller
Communicates with the computer and takes data and translates it so that the servo motors will energize and know how much and where to move. It also takes information from the servo motors and translates it into data that the computer uses to monitor the sewing heads position.
Sew What? Moves the machine so it will quickly and precisely sew near perfect patterns for you.
Servo Motors
Move the machine along the X and Y axis to produce patterns. The other servo motor on the top of the machine moves the needle up and down in the z axis producing stitches at the length specified.
Sew What? Servo Motors regulate the stitch and accurately control the movement of the machine (within 1/40 of an inch) so it will quickly sew near perfect patterns for you.

Auto Save Feature
Open projects are automatically saved periodically so if the program closes unexpectedly a record of your work is saved. Further, the save feature can also be used to keep a record of each project completed with your Statler Stitcher.
Sew What? You will be able to resume quilting where you left off if the program closes unexpectedly. An added benefit of having the software keep records of how you finished each quilt is that when someone asks, "I want this to be quilted just like the log cabin you did for Jane Doe in the spring of 2009." - you will be able to look at the person and confidently say" Okay!
Measurement Transfer Function
Use the sewing head to take accurate measurements of distance and angles between locations on the quilt. With just a few clicks of the mouse these measurements can be transferred to the appropriate fields.
Sew What? The measure function is used throughout the quilting process to help ensure that patterns will be placed exactly how you want them on your quilt. The Measurement Transfer Function ensures that these measurements are transferred for you without transposition errors.
Thread break sensor
Stops the machine if the top thread breaks.
Sew What? This prevents the machine from continuing to poke needle holes in your quilt top, after the sewing process has been disrupted by a broken thread.
Restart
After a thread break or the bobbin runs out, the machine will stop automatically. The machine automatically prompts the operator to resume quilting. It will back up to where the thread break was detected and will allow the operator to select that point, pick a specific stitch or move forward/backward 7 stitches at a time.
Sew What? It will be a snap for you to resume quilting when these events occur.
Easily set stitch lengths
From 4 to 20 stitches per inch by default, change them for a specific project or for an individual pattern.
Sew What? The details in small intricate patterns are best revealed with smaller stitch lengths, while longer stitches allow you to sew larger patterns faster.
Basting stitch lengths
Are adjustable in half inch increments from .5 to 4 inches.
Sew What? Gives you control of the size and frequency of your basting stitches. No need to pick out extra unwanted stitches here.
Defining a Boundary
This is a process where the quilt block shape is defined with a series of clicks using the sewing head. During this process, an image of the boundary is displayed in the preview area of the screen. Boundaries are used in many of the CS techniques. They may be required by a particular technique such as defining your quilting surface in E2E or in setting in a block pattern. They may also be used as a reference for guiding the placement of patterns.
Sew What? Boundaries make it so the screen image displayed corresponds to the actual surface of your quilt.
Preview design before sewing
The design and boundaries are displayed on the computer screen, allowing you to make adjustments to the size and location of the pattern before sewing it on your quilt top.
Sew What? What you see on the screen is what will be sewn on your quilt top, eliminating the need to rip out patterns that are inappropriately sized or placed. The new terminology being used is "WYSIWYQ" - What you see is what you quilt
Pattern Manipulation
Once you place your patterns within a boundary you have the capability to move, stretch, resize and rotate them so they are exactly how you want them quilted on your quilt top.
Sew What? You can adjust the pattern before you sew to get exactly the look you want. WYSIWYQ - What you see is what you quilt.
Single Block
Using the boundary as a template, CS allows you to size and position the quilt patterns for your quilting. Both the boundary and the pattern image are previewed before being stitched.
Sew What? You are no longer limited to squares and triangles when placing patterns on your quilt. You can determine the shape of your block and set your pattern's) in that block.
Easily sizes patterns to fill a block
The software will allow you to choose coordinates, and will automatically size the pattern to fit the boundaries you have selected.
Sew What? You can use any pattern and the software will size it to fit your block. The software will also allow you to "tweek" the size and rotation of the pattern.
Designs can be flipped
Horizontally and vertically or patterns may be rotated to any angle.
Sew What? This makes it easy to place a design in a specific place on your quilt top.
Automated tie-off and needle-up
At the beginning and end of sewing patterns.
Sew What? The machine will automatically tie-off with the number of tacking stitches you specify giving you complete control of the size and number of your security stitches. After securing your stitch the needle will come up allowing you to move the machine away and back to bring up your bobbin thread so you can trim it.
New Competitive Tie-Offs
Sew dense stitches with no back tack resulting in ties that are the same as those used hand guided quilters on competitive quilts.
Sew What? You can be assured that nearly every one of your tie-off stitches will be small and unobtrusive just like those done on award winning quilts. No more unduly prominent tie stitches.
Automated stitch-in-a-ditch
Using -Point to Point Line Mode" you can precisely and efficiently place straight stitch sewing in the seams of any quilt block shape.
Sew What? Your stitch in the ditch will be in the ditch as is should be complementing your beautiful piecing and quilt designs
Enhanced Record Mode
Allows you to use the record function to record your sewing path, or the path a pattern should follow.
Sew What? Allows you to precisely place your straight stitch sewing in the ditch or along specified lines, or to quickly place patterns along boundary lines.
Borders and Corners
Creative Studio can do border corners in four ways: angled, -L- shaped, square oriented and square corners. You choose the type and orientation that best fits the corner pattern.
Sew What? You identify your border and corner boundaries and Creative Studio easily places your patterns on the quilt. Further, you never have to turn the quilt to do your side borders.
Edge to Edge
You select the pattern and its density and the software automatically calculates the number of repeats for that row and the number of rows required to complete the quilt top edge to edge and from top to bottom.
Sew What? You don't have to do any calculations in an edge to edge pattern to complete the quilt.
Automated row positioning
The machine automatically indexes ahead to begin the next row of edge to edge quilting.
Sew What? You don't need to spend extra time measuring or worrying if your pattern will be properly spaced or aligned. The Statler Stitcher takes care of this for you.
Trim Pattern
Allows you to quilt around applique, embroidery or other designs. The border around the design is defined and trimmed away.
Sew What? In E2E quilting, trim pattern makes it easy to keep your quilting from going through your applique, embroidery or other designs. On individual blocks, use trim pattern along with a background fill pattern and you will make your embroidery or applique designs "pop".
Edge to Edge Alternating Pattern
Alternating pattern offsets every other row in the pantograph from the previous row, in the same manner as bricks are laid when building a wall.
Sew What? Some pantographs look less structured when alternating pattern is used.
Edge to Edge Concatenation
Multiple patterns may be combined when doing an edge to edge pantograph.
Sew What? You can arrange multiple edge to edge patterns into an arrangement of your liking.
Record mode
The hand guided movement of the sewing head is recorded so that it can be repeated in computer guided mode.
Sew What? This allows you to record any hand guided motif and use the computer to repeat it over and over on the quilt. It will always look the same as the original.
Repeat Patterns
Allows you to control the positioning, size and placement when a single or multiple copies of a particular pattern are needed.
Sew What? This gives the quilter control on where the pattern is placed on the quilt and is the most efficient and precise way to place multiple copies of the same pattern in a specific area of the quilt or in a row such as a border pattern.
No-sew-line
Creative Studio treats a no sew line like a jump stitch and continues sewing the pattern.
Sew What? This allows you to quilt patterns that are not continuous line drawings; therefore, you don't need to have lines in your designs where you don't want them.
Rubber Stamp Patterns
Allows you to select one or more patterns and copy them as many times as you want.
Sew What? Rubber stamp will save you time since you can adjust the size and shape of a pattern once and then use it over and over again on successive quilt blocks.
Group Patterns
Allows you to combine multiple patterns into a permanent group.
Sew What? This simplifies pattern reuse and turns off bobbin pull up and automatic tie off between patterns within the group.
Circular Array
Allows you to place one or more patterns into an array. You can select the number of copies, the angle between the copies and the center point of the array.
Sew What? Provides you with a way to make an evenly spaced circular arrangement of patterns.
Sew Text Fonts
In Creative Studio you can now type words in most standard windows fonts and the text you type now behaves as a regular pattern. You can stretch it, trim it, etc. It is now -a snap" to place and sew out words or phrases on your quilts!
Sew What? The ability to sew Fonts is powerful and important because it really opens up your lettering possibilities and what is even more exciting is that there are thousands of free web ding font libraries available on the internet and these fonts all sew just like a regular pattern! They can be stretched, trimmed, circular arrayed. This means the amount of available free patterns has increased by over a hundred thousand!
Echo Pattern
Creates a sewable echo at a designated distance from the original pattern. -Number of Echoes" will allow you to set the number of times the pattern is actually echoed. Echo is primarily used to echo around the outside of a design. However, echoes can even be placed on the inside of a design as well if the pattern is a fairly simple outline.
Sew What? After placing a motif, echoes are a commonly used attractive background fill technique.
CAD Pattern Drawing Capability
You can use the mouse to draw new patterns, modify existing patterns or even break apart or extract an object that you like from an existing pattern and use it to create a new block pattern, circular array, point to point pattern or even a new border pattern.
Sew What? With just a little effort, the drawing capabilities of Creative Studio virtually eliminate the need for you to purchase separate drawing software to create and save new patterns or modify existing ones.
View Crosshair
Shows your current needle position on the quilt with a large full screen crosshair.
Sew What? Being able to view the machines needle location on the screen is useful for quickly checking pattern boundaries and measurements. It's useful in a way that is similar to the old carpenters' adage, "Measure twice and cut once."
Channel lock at any angle
Creative Studio allows you select an angle, and the servo motors will only allow the machine to be moved and sew at that angle.
Sew What? You are not limited to only horizontal or vertical channel locks. You choose the angle in which you want to stitch a straight line(s) so you get the long parallel lines that so often are the perfect finish to a quilt.
Channel Lock Flip Angle
At the push of a button, this angle will replace the current angle. For instance, an ideal way to use this feature is to select a Flip Angle of 90-degrees. As such, at the push of a button the channel lock will change to an angle that is precisely perpendicular to the initial channel lock angle.
Sew What? This tool provides you with an easy and efficient way to sew the near perfect looking cross hatching that is very popular and striking on whole cloth quilts and in quilts with embroideries or cross stitching.
Channel Lock Radiating Lines
At the push of a two-button sequence the channel lock angle changes by a specific amount. For instance, select a Flip Angle of 15-degrees and with each repeat of the two-button sequence the channel lock angle will increase by 15-degrees.
Sew What? This results in an easy and very precise way to sew striking looking lines on a quilt that radiate outward from a single point.
Diagnostics
Right on the Creative Studio screen make it easy to perform tests and communicate with service technicians over the phone to unravel problems with the system and components.
Sew What? Makes it easy for you or a technician providing phone support to analyze and correct problems so that your machine is returned to service quickly.
Run in Reverse
The Creative Studio software runs the machine in reverse to ensure lubricating oil is distributed evenly over moving parts critical to non binding rotation of the machine.
Sew What? Keeps your machine running smoothly and quietly just like a new one!
Stand Alone Mode
Allows running Creative Studio on another computer without the sewing head and security key.
Sew What? In Stand Alone Mode you can use all of the CAD Pattern Drawing Capability to divide, reverse, group and repeat patterns. As such, you can build your own specialized patterns on computer other than the one dedicated to your Statler Stitcher System.
Simple user interface with one-page display
The single page display keeps all relevant information in front of you at all times.
Sew What? No need to flip between computer screens searching for the information you need.
