Instructions:

1.  Using the black 3/12" and 2 white 2" strips, create a strip set as pictured (white, black, white).
Press towards the black. Cut this strip set into nine (9) 3 1/2” strips.

2.  Using 2 black 2” strips and a white 3 1/2” strip, create a strip set as pictured (black, white, black). Press towards the black. Cut this strip set into 18 - 2” strips.

3.  Using 2 black 2” strips and a white 6 1/2” strip, create a strip set as pictured (black, white, black). Press towards the black. Cut this strip set into 18 - 2” strips.

4.  From the remaining 6 1/2” strip, cut 18 - 2” strips.

5.  Take one of the strip sets from step 1 and two of the strips sets from step 2 and sew them together as pictured. Press the seam away from the center block.

6.  Attach a white 6 1/2” x 2” piece to opposite sides of the square from step 5. Press the seams away from the center, towards the white strip.

7.  Take two of the strips from step 3 and add them to the sides adjacent to the strips just added, pressing the seams toward the strips and away from the center. The block should measure 9 1/2” square. Make a total of nine blocks.

8.  Take the two 14” x 14” squares and cut them into fourths diagonally.

 9.  Layout the diagonal pieces, white 9 1/2” squares and completed blocks to match the layout on the left, forming diagonal rows. Press away from the pieced blocks. Sew the rows together.

10.  Take the two 7 1/4” x 7 1/4” squares and cut them into half diagonally.

11.  The four triangles are the corner triangles and should be added to each corner of the quilt.

12.  Add the borders to the sides and then to the top and bottom of the quilt, pressing towards the borders. Ready to Quilt!

Rules:

1.  Only black and white solids or tone on tones to be used.

2.  The pattern must be followed to maintain size and color orientation. The challenge will be in the quilting!  Use any thread (type or color(s)) to quilt your pieced top in any way that you wish.

3.  To be included in the Challenge, please present your registration form no later than 15 June, 2016.

6.  Once turned in the quilt will be on display from 1 September to 7 October, 2016.

8.  Voting will begin on 1 September, 2016 and end on 30 September, 2016.

9.  The winner of each category will be announced 4 October, 2016 and will receive a $150 gift certificate.
